Twenty thousand tickets were sold in less than two hours Friday for the friendly match between Vietnam and the Brazilian Olympic football team.

A long line of people waited outside Hanoi’s My Dinh Stadium from early morning braving the heavy rain and sun in turns until the ticket counters opened at 2 p.m.

At 4 p.m. it was announced that all the tickets were sold. Tickets to the popular stands, costing VND200,000 (US$12) were the last to be sold out.

The VND300,000 ($18), VND500,000 ($30) and VND700,000 ($42) tickets had gone 45 minutes earlier.

The organizers were hoping to sell the 20,000 tickets in two days’ time. They are also selling tickets over the Internet and to organizations and firms.

But the black market trade is roaring. Outside the stadium Friday a woman was offering two VND500,000 tickets to a man, saying, “VND3 million ($179), no bargaining.”

Ho Chi Minh City Television Station (HTV) and Vietnam Television (VTV) will show the match live on August 1.
