Hundreds of taxi drivers of Mai Linh and CP Hanoi taxi companies have been on strike for the past few days. They said the petrol price has increased but the working norm hasn’t decreased so their incomes have been affected seriously.

Hoang Anh, driver of the CP Hanoi Taxi JS Company, said before the petrol price increased, drivers could earn VND200,000 from VND1 million of revenue but after the petrol price went up, the income fell to VND100,000-140,000/1 million.

Another driver named Dong of CP Hanoi Taxi said drivers earned VND150,000/100km, but now for each 100km they have to pay VND190,000, so they are suffering the loss of VND40,000.

Drivers of the Mai Linh Taxi JS Company said after the petrol price rose, Mai Linh also raised taxi charges while applying new working norms. As the charges went up, the number of passengers decreased. With the new norm, drivers’ incomes have dropped sharply.

A representative of Mai Linh Taxi said this company has increased charges by 20% and also adjusted the norm, which benefits drivers. Since this was explained to them, drivers have returned to work.

However, as of July 28, drivers of CP Hanoi Taxi were still on strike.
