The Tam Coc “three caves” portion is a three-hour excursion by small boat along the Ngo Dong river, beginning at the village of Van Lam and proceeding through a scenic landscape dominated by rice fields and karts towers. The route includes floating through three natural caves (Hang Ca, Hang Hai, and Hang Ba), the largest of which is 125m long with its ceiling about 2m high above the water. The boats are typically rowed by one or two local women who also sell embroidered goods. Bich Dong is a pagoda on nearby Ngu Nhac Mountain dating to 1428, comprising three structures: Ha, Trung, and Thuong Pagodas, in ascending order. Guided tours generally cover historical points and end with a pleasant view from the top.

Tam Coc is an awesome site of giant limestone karst formations jutting out of the rice paddies that surround the Ngo Dong River about 9km southwest of Ninh Binh, North Vietnam. It is often labelled "The Halong Bay of the rice paddies," in reference to similiar karts formations that rise out of the South China Sea at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ha Long Bay. It takes approximately three hours to go up and down the river and along the way, you witness local fisherfolk, village life along the river and, of course, the striking limestone karst formations that makes Tam Coc become a famous travel destination in vietnam.  

Poetically penned ‘Halong Bay on the rice paddies’, the area around Tam Coc boasts stunning scenery. While Halong Bay has rugged rock formations jutting out of the sea, here they soar skywards from a sea of green. Tam Coc is named after the low caves through which the Ngo Dong River flows. The essential Tam Coc experience is to sit back and be rowed through the caves – a serene and scenic trip, which turns into a surreal dance towards the end. 

Pick up from your hotel in Hanoi. Transfer to Hoa Lu, the ancient citadel of Vietnam during 10^th century. Enjoy spectacular countryside along the way. Arrive in Hoa Lu, visit the temple of Dinh Bo Linh, the first king of Dinh Dynasty. After visting the Ding Temple, visit the temple of Le Hoan King, the first king of Le Dynasty in Vietnam. After visiting the two temples, enjoy biking trip to Tam Coc. Enjoy cycling through stunning countryside and villages along biking trip. Lunch is served in a local restaurant. After lunch, enjoy wonderful cruise along Ngo Dong River in Tam Coc. Enjoy brilliant landscape and rice fields in Tam Coc. Disembark at the boat quay. Transfer back to Hanoi by road. Trip concludes in Hanoi. (Lunch)
